Thank you for viewing our Sport Phaeton.
This engine has about 2500 to 3000 miles since restoration.
The cosmetics have held up beautifully.
ABOVE: View from the front, looking back on the right side. Notice the reflections in the paint on the body panels, which show how flat and level the surface is.
ABOVE: Oil pan and surrounding area.
ABOVE: Engine shrouding and oil pan.
ABOVE: Rear half of the right side of engine.
ABOVE: Front half of the right side of the V12.
ABOVE: The right side of the engine shrouding and oil pan.
ABOVE: It may be hard to believe that all the nickel plating on this engine is original; but it has just been cleaned. This includes all of the Packard nickel-plated vacuum lines, fuel lines, fittings, and carburetor linkages. The head nuts and washers were made in stainless steel, as were the special "tall" nuts used
on all the manifolds. Stainless steel (in my opinion) replicates the original, slightly yellow nickel
"engine jewelry" better than chrome.
ABOVE: The original data plate with the original plating and black background. Meticulous cleaning preserved the Packard issued plate.
ABOVE: Left front view of the engine.
ABOVE: Another right side view of the Twelve. The water jacket side plates are
corrosion-resistant stainless steel.
ABOVE: Right rear view of cowl and firewall.
ABOVE: Rear left engine area showing the steering gearbox.
ABOVE: Fan shroud, water pump, radiator, and front of engine.
ABOVE: More of the left side engine.
ABOVE: Engine area from front looking back. More flat glossy finish on fender.
ABOVE: Air cleaner. Paint has a pleasing gloss level; not overly glossy.
ABOVE: Frequently, these air cleaners have rust on the inside. This air cleaner was cleaned and had no rust - whatsoever. These kind of circumstances, created by a dry climate, make a restoration
relatively easy.
ABOVE: The preparation on the basic engine block and other parts were painstakingly cleaned and metal prepped. The base is epoxy "DP" primer that has excellent adhesion. The topcoats are catalyzed urethane. The engine color is absolutely the correct color for the "Packard engine green". This color was created from virgin engine parts that were samples from great, original, low mileage Packard engines. The color can vary on computer monitors due to the individual monitor settings.
