Starting with the 2026 application cycle, UCAS has revised the personal statement format to better guide applicants in showcasing their qualifications and motivations. The traditional single essay has been replaced with three structured sections, each addressing a specific question:
1. Why do you want to study this course or subject?
2. How have your qualifications and studies helped you to prepare for this course or subject?
3. What else have you done to prepare outside of education, and why are these experiences useful?
Each section requires a minimum of 350 characters, with the total personal statement not exceeding 4,000 characters, including spaces. This structured approach aims to provide clearer guidance, making the application process more equitable and less daunting for all students.
