Jeff Campbell-Hitting

Jeff Campbell, a native of Clearwater, Fl. Since 2016, Campbell has been in a variety of coaching positions and baseball programming administration for youth through 19U. He found Total Baseball Academy in Clearwater, FL to begin his coach career. He coached 4 different teams in his 2 years at the academy. His 11U team went to the USA futures games in 2018 along with the USSSA Elite 32s that same season. His time at the academy was split between working with both the hitting and pitching. Jeffrey holds a B.S. in Kinesiology from University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. Where he played baseball all 4 years. He played a variety of positions from 1st base to the OF and even was a starting pitcher his first three years before he moved into the closer role during his senior year. In 2012 Jeffrey was selected to the Freshman All-American team along with being named Newcomer of the year and 1st team all-conference for the Great West Conference. After the 2015 season he competed and won the 2015 College Home Run Derby. In 2015 Jeffrey went on to play a season in the Atlanta Braves organization for the Danville Braves.

Layne Somsen-Pitching

Layne Somsen, a native of Yankton, SD. Layne has been working in baseball training for over a decade and has coached at the collegiate level. Somsen graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation and earned his Master’s in Sports Administration from Arkansas State University. During his time at SDSU, Somsen was a standout pitcher for the Jackrabbits. After his senior season, he was named Summit League Pitcher of the Year. He finished his career ranked fourth on the school’s all-time list in games started (38), strikeouts (180) and innings pitched (215). Somsen was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds and has since played in the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations. Over his 7-year career, Somsen played at every level, (Rookie, A-, A+, AA, AAA, MLB), of professional baseball. Over 284 career innings, Somsen holds a 20-9 record with 290 strikeouts.
