Middle School (6th-8th grades) Physical Education Syllabus
The goal of physical education is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity:
In order to pursue a lifetime of healthful physical activity, a physically literate individual:
Has learned the skills necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities.
Knows the implications and the benefits of involvement in various types of physical activities.
Participates regularly in physical activity.
Is physically fit.
Values physical activity and its contributions to a healthful lifestyle.

The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles,strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.
The physically literate individual demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.
The physically literate individual exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.
The physically literate individual recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.

Class routine
1st 5 minutes Change and get to designated areas for attendance
Next 10 minutes Announcements & Warm-ups
22 minutes Instruction / Daily Activity
Last 8 minutes Change / shower & locker room checks
*Please return to the gym after showering/changing. You will not be dismissed to your next class until the teacher has checked the locker room area.
Grading
A letter grade will be given based on the following. Your grade will consist of 30 daily points. You lose daily points by failing to comply with the following:
1) Respect - attitude towards teacher, classmates, facilities, and equipment. 5 points
2) Participation - How hard are you trying, effort!? 20 points
*This is not a performance based grade*
Warm-ups = 5 points
Daily Jog = 5 points
Daily activity = 10 points
3) Clothes - PE shoes are required. The rest of your clothes worn to PE 5 points
class needs to be conducive to physical activity.
Medical Excuses and Illness
Unless you have a written excuse from the school nurse or a doctor/nurse, you will be expected to change and participate in PE class. We realize that not everyone will feel like full participation in every class and we will handle each student individually. Please come in and visit with us before class starts if you are not feeling well.
If you have a medical excuse from a doctor/parent, you are still required to attend class and handle whatever activities you are allowed.
