Middle School (6th-8th grades) Health Syllabus
The goal of Health Education is to help students adopt and maintain healthy behaviors. Health Education contributes directly to a student's ability to successfully practice behaviors that protect and promote health while avoiding or reducing health risks:
In order to practice behaviors that protect and promote health while avoiding or reducing health risks, a health literate individual:
Has learned functional health information (physical, social, emotional, mental, and spiritual health concepts).
Knows how to form & identify the personal values that support healthy behavior.
Develops the social skills necessary to adopt, practice, and maintain health-enhancing behaviors.
National Standards:
Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health.
Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other factors on health behaviors.
Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information, products, and services to enhance health.
Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks.
Students will demonstrate the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health.
Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting skills to enhance health.
Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks.
Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health.

Next 40 minutes Instruction/projets/group work/individual work
Homework & Grading
- All Homework/classwork will be posted to Google Classroom
- A letter grade will be given based on the following:
Classwork - Unit notes. 10 points
Will be completed by the student and graded as complete or incomplete.
Classwork - worksheets TBD
Will be graded at the point value each worksheet is worth
Quizzes TBD
Each unit will end with a quiz.
Will be graded at the point value each quiz is worth
Projects TBD
Will be graded at the point value each project is worth
Presentations TBD
Will be graded at the point value each presentation is worth
Presentations will also have a presentation value the reflects how well the students presented their information
Late work Policy
All late work will be accepted and graded according to the following:
1 day late 10% deduction in grade
2 days late 20% deduction in grade
3 days late 30% deduction in grade
4 days late 40% deduction in grade
5 days late 50% deduction in grade
No late work will be accepted after midterms and end of quarters = 0% for assignment grade
* Deduction percentage is based on the total points possible for the assignment. * Deduction percentage is in addition to any missed points on the assignment.
Medical Excused Absences & Illness
Students are responsible for getting assignments from Google Classroom on days when they are not in school, and having the assignment completed by the posted due date. Extensions may be given based on each situation.
