Mrs. Christensen's Classroom Expectations:
All backpacks will be stored in your locker: NO backpack will be coming into the classroom. A locker and lock will be provided for you on the first day of school.
No phones are permitted to be out in the classroom: they may be used in passing time and your lunch period. If watches become a problem, we will hold the student's watch for the day.
No earbuds during class time.
No food or drink (other than water).
No hats are to be worn in the building.
Students are responsible for coming to class prepared.
Computers should be charged by the time students get to school. If you need to charge your computer during class, you are expected to do so quietly.
Students should have pencils (or pens) every day for class. If a student needs a pencil for the day, they need to be responsible and ask for one.
Students are responsible for handing in work on time.
Late work: 10% of your grade will be deducted every day the assignment is late up to 5 days late (50% of your grade). The window for late work is the beginning of the quarter till midterm, and midterm until the end of the quarter. Grades must be turned in by those 2 'cut off' time frames.
Academic integrity: avoid plagiarism and cheating.
If caught cheating, you will automatically lose 50% of your grade.
ACE policy
ACE stands for Attendance-Citizenship-Effort, which is very similar to our elementary's SCRR (Safety-Caring-Respect-Responsibility) model.
ACE points will be calculated each week: 4 or more Effort points result in ineligibility, which is based on grades and failing classes. There is a 3-Point system in place for Citizenship: if 3 or more points are given, students will lose bathroom and water breaks during class, and visiting rights to other teachers during Study Hall. These points are also calculated each quarter for Middle School ACE rewards and eligibility.
21st Century Employability Skills Rubric
Students will work on these skills throughout their 3 years of Middle School, being the very best version of themselves, and working on achieving a 3 or 4 in each category.
Students will use one 3-subject notebook for all 3 years they are in class with me. We will be building on to the information we learn year to year.
Students are allowed to have water in class.
Students are NOT allowed to chew gum in class. Way too many students enjoy using tables, chairs, and the floor instead of the trash can for their chewed gum, so this privilege is being taken away.
IXL's are due every Monday morning. IXL's are used as practice for skills we are studying. They should be completed to 70% within 30 questions. If you have mastered the skill, you will only need to answer 12 questions: ASK FOR HELP BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!
Assignments will be counted incorrect if handwriting is illegible. Students will have the opportunity to fix their work and return for credit. Most assignments are able to be completed on Google Docs.
Correct sentence structure, punctuation, and school formal vocabulary (no 'KWIM,' 'imma,' 'IDK,' etc) are expected on all written work.
Students who do not have readings done for book clubs on time will be given an FDA for each day they are behind. Staying together for book clubs is imperative to your success!
7th-grade will focus on Morphology and Vocabulary. They will be given a Greek & Latin Root assignment packet every week.
8th-grade Vocab sheets are due every Friday. Students are encouraged to use a dictionary if they are unsure of a definition, rather than guess. All words are expected to be spelled correctly, as the correct spelling is on the front page. Questions will be counted incorrect if they are illegible, misspelled, or do not have the correct suffix attached.
Each grade level will be given time to independently read during most school days. Students are expected to keep track of their reading, but I also monitor their progress.
8th grade is expected to read a minimum of one book per quarter (200 pages or another approved by me).
7th grade is expected to read a minimum of one book 1st semester, then 1 book per quarter 2nd semester (200 pages or another approved by me).
