Overview
In this classroom, we focus on respect, responsibility, and collaboration. I want every student to feel comfortable taking risks and pushing themselves to grow academically and personally. Throughout the year we will engage in a mix of discussions, group work, and individual projects, with a strong emphasis on participation. Your voice matters, and the more you contribute, the more we’ll all learn together.
I value flexibility and open communication. If something is affecting your work or participation, please reach out to me! I am always here to support you. While we will explore ideas deeply, I expect students to come prepared and stay focused. Accountability is key, and I will always be here to guide you toward success.

About me
Welcome to my classroom! I am Ms. Cohen, and I have been passionate about teaching for as long as I can remember. After teaching at Henry James Middle School, I made the exciting move to the high school where I continue to inspire students to find their voice through reading and writing. I graduated from UNC Wilmington where I studied English and Secondary Education. As part of a family of teachers (my mother taught art for 35 years in Avon), I grew up with a deep love for learning and the impact a great teacher can have.
In my classroom, I aim to create a space where every student can explore literature in a way that resonates with them. I believe in the power of books like To Kill a Mockingbird and Where the Red Fern Grows to connect us to important lessons in life. When I’m not teaching, you’ll likely find me outside- whether it’s at the beach, walking a nature trail, or enjoying a good book with a Diet Coke in hand!
I look forward to working with you all this year and helping you discover your own love for reading and writing!
