Visual and Performing Arts at Royal
The Visual and Performing Arts Department (VAPA) has crafted a beautiful program for students at Royal High School. Our dedicated music, theater, and art teachers have decades of experience supporting students in self-discovery and creative expression through the fine arts. Passing a one-year course from this department fulfills the 10-unit fine arts graduation requirement (we are the “F” in the A - G requirements). Many students take up to four years of fine arts to develop their skills through our advanced courses. Subjects in this department include theater, vocal and instrumental music, video production, and the visual arts including photography. We offer CTE, AP and IB courses within this department. The courses are active and participatory, and they culminate in performances and exhibits. All courses require some homework to be completed. Materials and instruments are available so that all students have access to these classes. Some of the higher level groups and courses require audition or portfolio presentations prior to acceptance. The Royal High Visual and Performing Arts Department wants the opportunity to work with you. It’s the Royal student body that helps make our programs so great!
