Excellence in Arts

Inspiring creators to reflect the beauty of our world

Royal High pursues excellence in the Visual, Performing, and Technical Arts. Our students are exposed to several courses of study including theater, vocal music, instrumental music, journalism, video production, ceramics, basic design, drawing and painting, traditional and digital photography.

Our student artists and performers exemplify the spirit of a multifaceted and well-rounded educational experience. Although not all students will move on to pursue artistic careers, arts education develops students with confidence, poise, and the ability to appreciate the beauty of the world around us.

Vocal Music Program

Our Vocal Music Program offers 4 diverse performance ensembles under the direction of Bethany Uko. Our non-auditioned groups include: Concert Choir (men & women) and Voicemale (a men’s lunchtime club). Ensembles requiring an audition include: Advanced Women’s Ensemble and Vocal Jazz (men & women). Both audition groups are IB optional. There is no cost to families, but donations are welcomed. The program offers a rigorous and fun musical experience, with opportunities to perform, travel, and make lasting memories! Our piano class offers a fun place for students of any musical background to learn music in our piano lab. The course has an element of being self paced to accommodate learner’s needs and meet students where they are at, whether that be beginning or advanced. View these informational videos from our Vocal Director Mrs. Uko and to see some of our singers work during distance learning.

Band Program

Our band program consists of three concert bands, three jazz bands, a marching band, and color guard. Students do not have to audition to be in band at Royal, but are welcome to audition for a spot in our advanced concert bands, Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble. Wind Ensemble is offered as an IB course for juniors and seniors. All concert bands meet during school hours so students can do both band and a sport! Marching band meets as a seventh period after school. The band program offers invaluable opportunities that students will cherish for a lifetime!

Special Note: All prospective band and color guard students should join the Incoming Students Google Classroom with their simivalleyusd.org account (contact Director of Bands Lisa Pate for more information).
