This book explores first-language-based education for adults and children in diverse Asian contexts. Part I examines the planning and implementation of sustainable multilingual literacy programmes, drawing on experiences from nine countries. Topics include community mobilisation, writing systems, curriculum and materials development, facilitator training, evaluation, government policy and sustainability. Part II presents resource papers by linguists and examples of good practice in mother-tongue literacy from five countries.
