The resources on these pages focus on essential components of successful Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) programs. They are grounded in sound principles of education and development and draw on Dr. Susan Malone’s 40 years of experience working with colleagues from non-dominant language communities, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and other institutions involved in planning and implementing MTB-MLE programs in Asia, Africa and the Pacific. The resources are organized around these components, as illustrated in her wheel diagram below. More about Dr. Malone
A note about these resources: We recognize that some of these resources may be dated and that newer materials and approaches are now available. However, the principles and practical insights they offer remain valuable. These resources continue to be used and referenced by educators and practitioners around the world, and we hope they will continue to inform and support those planning and implementing MTB-MLE programs.
