Yesterday Middle School took a tour of the 9/11 Memorial in Kewaskum. The tour itself consisted of an age-appropriate talk about the events of September 11th from Memorial volunteers.
It included a warm-up to gauge what the students know about 9/11, a discussion on the timeline of events from that day, a geography discussion, the significance of the World Trade Center and Pentagon, a discussion about the ensuing Global War on Terror, and discussion on the first responders. Then they talked about the significance of the Memorial and why it's in Wisconsin.
The students then completed a scavenger hunt where they worked in groups to find and explore different parts of the Memorial. They then regrouped to talk about the items they found and what they meant to them.
The scavenger hunt went through each of the learning stations within the Memorial.
The Memorial includes an actual piece from the North Tower.
