Purpose

All School of Business students are required to demonstrate competency in Excel by earning a passing grade in one of the following: 

• 1. CSIS-010 Introduction to Computer Applications 

  2. CSIS-011 Problem Solving with Spreadsheets

  3. CSIS-SSX Spreadsheet Competency Exam

Most students meet the requirement by taking CSIS-010 or CSIS-011. About 20% of the students who take the competency exam pass it, so only students with advanced skills in Excel should attempt to meet the requirement by taking the exam. All Business students should seek to meet this requirement during their first year as a School of Business student. Transfer students might be able to transfer credit for either CSIS-010 or CSIS-011 (contact the School of Business for more information).
