What is DECA?
DECA is an international high school business competition that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
Ok, but what does that mean?
DECA is a competition that is focused on educating high school student in business. It centers around the 5 core clusters of business: Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Finance, Hospitality, and Management. Within each of these core clusters, there are endless variations that DECA has aimed to teach through engaging competition.
The use of 5 event types (Principles, Individuals, Team, Written, and Online) allows anyone to engage with an event that is best suited to their strengths.
❖ Principles Events: Test and Roleplay (Required for first year DECA Participants)
➢ 4 events, one for each core cluster except entrepreneurship
➢ 100 question multiple choice exam
➢ Solo Event
➢ Centered on general business knowledge
❖ Individual Events: Test and Roleplay
➢ 14 Events
➢ 100 question multiple choice exam
➢ Solo Event
➢ Centered on cluster specific business knowledge
❖ Team Decision Making Events: Test and Roleplay
➢ 2 person event - Each person takes separate exam, and does roleplay together
➢ Centered on cluster specific business knowledge
➢ Various category options
➢ 100 question multiple choice exam
❖ Written Events: Large Variety
➢ 23 events
➢ 1-3 person event
➢ All events have a presentation
➢ Some events turn in presentation materials (essay/poster board)
➢ Some Events have a 100 question multiple choice exam
