Academic Tutoring (AT) is a course designed to help students develop and strengthen executive functioning skills that will not only assist with their high school academic expectations, but will also lead to a successful transition into the student's post-secondary goals.
Academic Tutoring is designed to complement a student's studies and allow them access to a number of resources to help them be a successful high school student. The course is divided into a daily 15-minute executive skills session and the remainder of the class is for students to work on their individual academic work with support and assistance from the AT teacher.
Academic Tutoring classes follow the SMARTS Executive Functioning curriculum that covers topics and contains activities for students to learn about their own executive functioning skills, their strengths and challenge areas, utilizing an academic planner, prioritizing and setting goals, and time management .
Besides participating in the executive functioning curriculum, students will also complete Daily AT Check in Sheets to log their productivity and work completed in class, check and log their grades from Powerschool on a weekly grade form and will also be communicating with their teachers to check in about missing work and /or extra help.
