Meet the Reading Specialists

Mrs. Caitlin Tobin

Hello! I taught Academy 1 for 8 years at Sacred Heart. Right in the middle of those 8 years I earned my Masters in Teaching and reading specialist certification from National Louis University. I am excited to begin the 2018-2019 school year as a reading specialist and assessment coordinator for SHS Primary school.

I love to making reading fun and incorporating technology and hands on activities in to lessons. I will also be working closely with classroom teachers to periodically analyze reading assessments in order to inform teaching. My goal is for every student to reach their full potential as a reader.

In my free time I love visiting parks with my 2 year old son Gus, taking my dog Margie for walks and trying new restaurants with my husband George. I'm a big Cleveland sports fan and I also enjoy watching Manchester City soccer games on the weekend. I'm looking forward to getting to know your child as a reader this year!

Hello! My name is Kathy Roderer. I’m beginning my eighteenth year at Sacred Heart, twelve years in third grade, and the past five years in the Reading Lab. I have a Master of Arts in Teaching and a reading specialist certification, both from National-Louis University. I find it very rewarding to work with children who are very intelligent, and yet struggle in school because of reading and writing difficulties. It’s so much fun to witness their growth from year to year and see that light in their eyes when it starts to make sense. It’s almost like caring for a garden!

My husband and I live in Evanston and have four grown daughters, four grandchildren, and two large dogs, Kaya and Meeko. When I’m not working with children, I swim on a swim team and enjoy playing the organ occasionally in church.
