A peek Inside the REading Lab
Leveled Literacy Intervention PROGRAM
Each lesson includes a leveled book and phonics, comprehension, writing and word work activities.
Hands on Activities
We utilize multi-sensory activities similar to the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction. These activities are great for letter identification, phonics practice and high frequency word practice. Here are a few examples of the materials we use in the Reading Lab.
Scrabble Tiles
Letter Beads and String
Wiki Stix
Sand/Rice Writing
Magnetic Letters
Play-Doh Stamping
tECHNOLOGY
Each student who works in the Reading Lab is provided a Lexia Core5 Reading account. Lexia is tailored to each students needs and practices decoding, fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. Students can access Lexia in the Reading Lab, in the classroom and (most importantly) at home.
More information on the benefits of Lexia can be found here:
Motivation
We want students to be excited about reading and proud of their accomplishments. We provide an array of motivators to help reach even the most reluctant readers. Our goal is to create life-long learners who intrinsically love to read.
Puff Ball Collection
Each time a student masters a book, he or she get to add a puff ball to our collection!
Stickers!
Reading Buddies
Reading to stuffed animals is a great way to get reluctant readers to read out loud.
Sticker Charts
We use sticker charts to keep track of student progress in Reading Lab and on Lexia. Once the chart is filled up we celebrate with a party!
Prize Box
Students can trade in stickers for prizes from the prize box.
