October EDITION

We are a couple months into school and finishing up first quarter! A big shout out to our staff and students for stepping up during these uncertain times. We've seen all kinds of fun stuff happening in classrooms this quarter! 5th grade Social Studies Native American Dwellings and exciting Science labs, 6th grade Social Studies pyramids, 8th Grade debates in Language, and so much more!

Homecoming is coming up November 6, 2020! This year, Homecoming will be a ticketed event. This is a precautionary measure we are putting in place at this time to address social distancing concerns. For those that are unable to attend, we will be streaming the event on our district’s Facebook page. Each participant will be issued tickets to distribute to their friends and family. All guests, including all Senath-Hornersville students, must present their ticket at the door for entry. Tickets will be issued to the participants no later than Friday, 10/30/20. The ticket distribution is as follows:

Homecoming Court: 7 tickets per student

SHMS Basketball/Cheer: 5 tickets per student

Visiting Basketball: 2 tickets per student

We will not have a homecoming backdrop on the sideline this year, in order to provide more seating for our guests to physically distance. Instead, our backdrop for pictures will be located in a separate location in the building and pictures will be taken before the ceremony. Guests will be permitted to take pictures at this time as well, but will not be allowed on the gym floor to take pictures during the ceremony. We will have a photographer on hand to take pictures during the ceremony. The first three rows of bleachers will be reserved for our homecoming court to watch the game. Congratulations to the Homecoming Court below:

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to honor those who have fought or are fighting this disease, we designated a day to dress in all pink. The entire district does this each year and calls it "Pink Day". The teachers also hung pink ribbons up on their door this month to honor a special person in their life that is fighting, fought, or survived breast cancer. "Supporting the FIGHTERS, admiring the SURVIVORS, honoring the TAKEN, and never giving up hope."

From the Principal's Desk

Parents and Guardians,

Here are some helpful tips to monitor your child’s grades, attendance, and account activities. You can use PowerSchool for Parents on our website at www.shslions.org. The toolbar at the top will have Parents listed. Click on it and it will bring you to a page with several links on it, including one that says "Powerschool." Click on it and it will take you to a screen that will ask you for your username and password. When you enter your information, you will be able to check your student’s grades, attendance, and discipline entries. If you click on the percentage beside their classes, you can see what assignments they have turned in and what they earned for each assignment. If you do not have the username and password for your student, contact us at 573-737-2455 ext. 2000 and we will be happy to give you that information.

Parent communication is extremely important to us, so if you have an email that we can use to contact you, or a new phone number, please contact us so we can update your information. If you have any questions about your student’s progress in class, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher and they will be happy to speak with you as well. We appreciate all your support.

Sincerely,

Anthony Mauricio

SHMS Principal

Nurse Swink Says

Watch for symptoms

People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:

  • Fever or chills

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Fatigue

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Headache

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Sore throat

  • Congestion or runny nose

This list does not include all possible symptoms. CDC will continue to update this list as we learn more about COVID-19.

Help Stop the Spread

Help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, like COVID-19, by avoiding close contact with people who are sick; covering cough and sneeze; avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth; and washing your hands with soap and water. If you are sick, you can prevent spreading sickness by staying home and taking care of yourself.

How to Wear a Cloth Face Covering

Cloth face coverings should—

  • fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face

  • be secured with ties or ear loops

  • allow for breathing without restriction

  • be able to be laundered and machine dried
