Wolves
—--------------------------------What it's all about—----------------------------------
In our project this term, year six will become authors and will write about….. Wolves! In the first few weeks of this project we will be doing scientific research on the animal. We will be doing this in order to create a realistic wolf character in our writing. We will be currently writing an informational text about the wolf.
What do you think of when you hear the word fossils? Do you think of dinosaur bones? If you do then you are not far. Fossils can be made from almost anything but the most common cause of fossils are bones. The first stage of fossilisation is the last stage of life, DEATH. After this all soft parts of the body will either be eaten or rot. After this the skeleton will be buried under layers of sentiment soon the bones will fill with water and minerals will turn the bones to stone. After this the fossil will be exposed by erosion.
There are also frozen fossils which preserves the whole body. This helps scientists learn more about life before humans even existed! Sometimes they could even preserve blood! We have observed what scientists believe to be a 40000 year old wolf head. We have compared this to a modern grey wolf.
Wolves are in a pack in order to survive they will make friendships, relationships and maybe even rivalries! They will sometimes hunt animals 10 times its size which is why being in a pack is vital to a wolf’s survival. They also have ways to communicate through body language, voice and scent.
