What did they wear?
Romans wear what we would wear in summer because in Rome it is very hot so they would wear the toga.
This man is wearing a Tunic. The tunic was standard dress for all men from slaves to the nobles.
Both men and women wore a simple loincloth called a subligaculum under their clothes.
Indoors, the Romans wore open-toed sandals.
Weapons
The Romans were great fighters - so what did they fight with?
Well they fought with short, small, swords. Their sword had to be light and easy to hold so they could throw them - as well as being easy to get under with it to stab someone.
They have shields as big as a grown man which are red, gold and silver, and curved to fit around the body.
They would also use spears to throw or jab from far away!
The Roman Army were very clever. They had different types of formation, like the tortoises, where they make a tortoise shell by forming rows of Roman soldiers and shields.
The soldiers on the outside face the outer of the square; the others in the middle would put their shields on their heads to shelter from incoming arrows from the enemy.
Hierarchy
The Roman hierarchy had 8 parts
1st the Emperor
2nd the senators
3rd the equestrians
4th the plebeians
5th the women
6th the gladiators
7th the free slaves
8th the slaves
Do you know why the Emperor is so important? Well that's because Romans have fear over their leaders! If they do something wrong it would mean death.
