Powderpuff
What went down during the final Powderpuff match and how students felt about the season
Powderpuff came down to a final showdown between the seniors and the freshmen. The buzzer went off and the seniors chanted and yelled, taking home the win. In total there were 100 players and 32 coaches. The freshmen team consisted of 19 players, the sophomores had 27 players, the juniors had 11 players, and the seniors had 43.
“I joined Powderpuff this year as I was wanting to try something new and be a part of a school activity," junior Malia Plaster said. "Also, later on after high school, I would regret not trying new things and being involved, with it being a missed opportunity if I didn't try it out," Plaster said.
Unfortunately, the junior team only had 11 players participating in Powderpuff this year with not a lot of practice time before the game.
“I was a coach and we were at a huge disadvantage not having a lot of players at practices and not having a lot of players at the game but it was super fun because even though we were short of players we still had fun doing our best”, junior Jayden Mendez said.
In contrast to the juniors, the seniors had 43 players which helped them score on the other teams and take home the win. Winning Powderpuff meant more than bragging rights to the seniors.
“The scores were good. We only got scored on once out of all the games, we placed first overall because of our grit and will," senior Payton MacDonald said.
The juniors wore blue shirts and all got together. They showed team spirit by choosing names for their blue uniform shirts. Junior Chloe Van Andel chose El Presidente. Junior Maggie Smith chose Mag Dog. Junior Eliza Westover chose Westie. Junior Malia Plaster chose her last name, Plaster.
“It was so fun to get into that team spirit on game day, everyone was wearing their Powderpuff shirts and we hyped each other up," Plaster said.
