The Hours Before School
Students share parts of their morning routines
How to make the best morning routine
The bell for first period rings at 8:30 in the morning. Students settle into classes and begin their school day. But, their day really starts way before this, when they wake up.
“I wake up at 6:40 and then my cats jump on me,” senior Elizabeth Diteman said. “Then, I cuddle with them for twenty minutes.”
Many students find it beneficial to start their day early. Waking up early can increase productivity and concentration, according to sources such as the Sleep Foundation.
“I wake up at 6:15 but I probably don’t roll out of bed until 6:20,” junior Megan Reilly said.
Multiple students also expressed that they enjoy spending time with their pets before leaving them for the day.
“The first thing I do is turn off my alarm,” Diteman said. “Then, I feed my dog Zoe and my two cats, George and Alfie.”
Breakfast can be tough to fit into a morning routine. Some students are able to have a full meal, while others only have time for a granola bar.
“I usually make myself one egg and one piece of bread with a little pinch of shredded cheese,” Diteman said.
Toast seems to be a quick and easy way to get something in your system before heading out for the school day.
“I have my dad’s sourdough bread and generally strawberries,” junior Maia Webb said.
Everyone has a step in their routine that is unique to them. This could be working out, showering, or something else.
“I listen to music so that I don’t get tired again,” Webb said.
Even making it to first period on time can be a challenge for some. Between getting yourself together, helping siblings, and school traffic, the odds can be stacked against you.
“I leave my house at eight and drop my sister off at the middle school,” Reilly said. “Then, I come to school and go to history class with Mr. Wodzinski.”
