There were over 150 movies that were released in 2023. Everyone has different opinions, and you might disagree, but this story shows the top four movies based on the opinions of a random selection of SHS students. By far the most popular movie was “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse", a hit animated sequel to the Spider-Verse film that came before it, produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment.
“It has the best animation, and breaks many animating rules within it,” senior Aiden Adams said.
Opinions on the movies released in 2023 were polarized. One of the more popular movies, coming in second, is “Barbie”. “Barbie” took over the world. Some might say it seemed like wherever you went you could always find something “Barbie” themed.
“It was fun, and different from any movie I, or (I think) anyone else, has ever seen. I love the focus on individuality. And I mean, who doesn't love Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling,” junior Annie Westover said.
Third up, out of all the movies released in 2023 is “Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3.” The long awaited continuation of the Marvel series. There’s certainly something to be said about Marvel franchise movies making the top charts in both the critics and the public's eyes.
”Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3” had a complete story and emotional punches,” freshman Carly Onstot said.
Coming in fourth as the best movie from 2023 is “Nimona.” This movie stars Eugene Lee Yang, known as a core player of ‘The Try Guys’ a popular group on the internet, as Ambrosius Goldenloin.
“I really like the style it was drawn in and I thought the animation was really good.” sophomore Amelie Allen said. “I really enjoyed the humor and it made me laugh. And it made me cry at the end, it was able to put me in the feels. Also, I really felt like the characters were enjoyable to watch.”
