Relationship Skills: The ability to establish and maintain healthy and rewarding relationships with diverse individuals and groups. This includes communicating clearly, listening actively, cooperating, resisting inappropriate social pressure, negotiating conflict constructively, and seeking and offering help when needed.
“Start class” Questions:
What 3 words best describe you?
What are 3 qualities you value in a relationship (friend, partner, teacher)
What does respect mean to you?
What is something that makes you smile?
What is the kindest thing that someone has done for you? (paired with Kindness in Action activity below)
What gets in the way of people being kind to one another?
What do you wish people would do more often?
How do you manage conflict?
What is a healthy way to manage conflict with adults, family, peers, teachers)?
Activities:
Say something kind to the person on your right/left/above you in the Meet, etc.
Write a positive thing about each student in the classroom (example was taping a blank paper on students back and students have to write positive things on the paper- change for more social distance activity) ( edutopia.org)
Partner up with someone you don’t know, ask them five questions and present them to the class (edutopia.org)
Quote of the day: Introduce a quote relevant to what your students are learning or to a shared experience—for example, How have you shown resilience through Covid? You can facilitate a whole-class discussion, group students into pairs, or have each student share a one-word response to the quote. This gives students the space to reflect on their beliefs and experiences and whether they agree or disagree with the quote and other students’ opinions, and it gives them insight into their peers’ perspectives and feelings.(edutopia.org)
