Career Pathways

Career Pathways

Career and technical education (CTE) programs in Virginia public schools serve more than 640,000 students in one or more CTE courses in grades 6-12. These programs are designed to prepare young people for productive futures while meeting the commonwealth's need for well-trained and industry-certified technical workers. Shenandoah County Public Schools is outlining career pathways that have stackable industry credential certifications that will allow students to enter the world of work and/or post-secondary education upon successful completion of each program. All employment data is updated once annually and is based off of the median salary in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Virginia acknowledges the importance of career and technical education to students and the commonwealth through diploma seals awarded by the Board of Education, by recognizing industry credentialing in its diploma requirements, and through the use of Career Pathways as an integral part of the newly required Academic and Career Plan and the Profile of a Graduate. Potential earnings/wages come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Most career and technical education classes have some form of work based learning opportunities to go with the class.

***Students may earn an industry credential certification to fulfill their graduation requirement in all introductory level career and technical education courses by earning a passing score on Workplace Readiness Skills for the Commonwealth Examination credential.***
