Each student is responsible for the general care of the Chromebook that he/she was issued by the school. Chromebooks that are broken or fail to work properly must be taken to the school's Chromebook Coordinator as soon as possible. District-owned Chromebooks should never be taken to an outside computer service for any type of repairs or maintenance. -Chromebooks should not be used near food or drink.
-Chromebooks should be used with caution as the cord may be a tripping hazard.
-Chromebooks must remain free of any personal writings, drawings, stickers, and labels.
-Chromebooks should not have heavy objects placed on or near them.
-Chromebooks should be transported with care.
-Chromebooks should never be lifted or carried by the screen.
-Chromebooks should be closed only after making sure there is nothing on the keyboard.
-Avoid exposing your Chromebook to excessive heat or cold conditions. (Avoid leaving them in a vehicle for an extended period of time)
Students may not personalize the outside of the Chromebook. It remains the student’s responsibility to care for and protect his/her device. Students will be assigned one charging cord with the Chromebook. It is the student/parent's responsibility to replace any lost and/or damaged charging cords. The student is responsible for the charging cord, and it must be returned with the Chromebook at the end of each school year or when you leave the District.
Shenandoah County Public Schools Technology Department requires replacement chargers for Chromebooks to be UL-certified or listed for the safety of students and staff. UL certification ensures that the charger meets stringent safety standards set by Underwriters Laboratories, a global safety certification company. Devices with UL certification undergo rigorous testing for potential hazards like electric shock, fire, and overheating. By requiring UL-certified chargers, schools prioritize the safety of their students and staff, mitigating the risk of accidents or damage to devices. Chargers provided by the SCPS Technology Department will be Dell OEM chargers. Sometimes it does take a bit more time to order replacement chargers through the SCPS Technology Department. At-Home Chromebook Repair Procedures
If your student has an issue with their Chromebook, please contact the school. The following procedures have been put in place for the handling of these situations...
-If a Chromebook is malfunctioning (won't turn on, trackpad doesn't work, etc.) please return the Chromebook to the school and a loaner will be issued.
-If a Chromebook is not working for malicious reasons (screen cracked, the case is cracked, etc.) the student will be charged for the repair.
