The goal for the library is to have children develop the LOVE of reading. The library is organized by genre (type of book.) Students are not restricted on what they can read based on reading levels. If your child selects a book to check out that you believe to be inappropriate due to content or reading level, simply have him/her return it to the library the following day to make a different selection. If you have a preference as to what your child reads or shouldn't read, please discuss this with them. Talking to your child about what they are reading is a great way to start a conversation and get their thoughts about what they are reading.
"Libraries and their governing bodies cannot assume the role of parents or the functions of parental authority in the private relationship between parent and child. Libraries and their governing bodies shall ensure that only parents and guardians have the right and the responsibility to determine their children’s—and only their children’s—access to library resources. Parents and guardians who do not want their children to have access to specific library services, materials, or facilities should so advise their own children. "
