Amateur radio has strong links to electrical and electronic engineering. We are granted permission to build whatever equipment we want, from radios to antennas to power supplies and more.
Some people sadly see their radio as a black box - they don't care how it works or want to know why, they just know how to plug the antenna and mic into it. This is really unfortuate, as most people don't realise the pure genius that goes into making a radio work. Every part is designed to be as optimal as possible, and some of the tricks designers use to simplify their work is amazing once you understand it.
That's not as difficult as you think! Once you have a little bit of grounding in how radios work it's very easy to put some basic designs together. And remember, as amateurs we are allowed to experiment - it doesn't have to work perfectly or be up to commercial standards.
Excellent - we are going to be running several building sessions over the year, both small for your personal use and large to help the club out. Please do NOT worry if you aren't a EEE student, you don't need any prior experience to enjoy and learn about the projects we build.
