We are in the process of developing a framework for research-by-design training that the design tools library will inform. We propose design thinking as an ontological ground to cut across a multiplicity of discourses, disciplines and definitions to produce ‘tentacular’ thinking. With its ability to provide solutions to ‘wicked’ problems, design thinking can help produce radical alternatives of the future and a mode of effective engagement and activism towards making alternatives happen. However, many social scientists are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with design approaches and design researchers tend to work in isolation. This initiative, focused on a series of training events, aims to disseminate design approaches more widely across the Faculty of Sciences and generate interdisciplinary synergies while also establishing new connections with invited researchers and experts. Under the tab of 'training', we will share ongoing activities and open-access course materials that support this aim.
