When asked to define what organic growing is, the most common answer is ‘growing without chemicals’. However, it is so much more than that. Organic growing is a holistic approach that considers not just the plant you are growing, but how it interacts with the soil, its direct surroundings and the wider environment as a whole.

Garden Organic has spent over 60 years researching sustainable ways to grow through citizen science and working with communities and small scale growers in a practical context. In this talk we would like to share our experiences including practical tips for:

Sustainable soil care – the heart of organic growing

Promoting biodiversity – how to recognise and support our army of helpers in the garden

Avoiding chemicals – practical alternatives to meeting common growing challenges

This talk will help you gain an appreciation of the natural processes that happen in your garden, and we think that once you start to work with them rather than fighting them, not only will it benefit the environment, but you will start to enjoy gardening a lot more!
