How is food related to climate change?

Tips on harvesting in garden/allotment:

  • MYHarvest - an exciting research project led by The University of Sheffield researchers that aims to estimate the contribution people who grow their own fruit and vegetable crops are making to the UK national food production

  • A recording of our webinar titled 'Grown in the city' led by Boglarka 'Zilla' Gulyas from MYHarvest

  • Some really nice infographics created by Evergreen Garden Care on when it is good to grow and harvest different kinds of vegetables

  • You can find lots of organic growing advice on this website by Garden Organic. They also led a webinar for us and you can find a recording of it here - it includes lots of practical tips and advice!

  • A recording of our webinar titled 'Growing food in an allotment' which includes practical advice about allotment gardening.

  • Most pesticides can pose a risk to humans and animals. For this reason, ConsumerNotice.org have published a guide with organic, homemade, and agricultural alternatives for your garden - you can see the guide here.

Sheffield Food Banks

  • On this link you can find a comprehensive list of food banks in Sheffield, sorted by post code. You can also donate to the Sheffield Foodbank Network or a food bank of your choice which is especially important now during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Hicks Green Impact team are organising a crowdfunding campaign to donate to local food banks in Sheffield in order to offer some support to food banks working to tackle hunger in our local communities.

  • Food Works Sheffield - you can collect surplus boxes from several different locations in Sheffield for a minimum donation of £1. They also cook meals that can be collected from their Sharrow location.

  • Foodhall project - community kitchen and public dining space in Sheffield that has been delivering food parcels to people in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. Two Grantham Centre PhD students volunteer in Foodhall and they gave an interview about their experience.
