Starting with hydroponics

If you are a hydroponics beginner, you can check out some online resources below assembled by Nicole Kennard, a PhD candidate from the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures.

Starting with hydroponics

Hydroponics can be done at home with a wide variety of DIY projects. They can be very simple 'bucket' like systems where you just get a bin, some styrofoam or something else that floats on top of the water in the bin, and some cups to put plants in - further guidance for beginners can be found here. The setup in the link is done very well, but you can do the same with a 5 gallon bucket and some holes drilled in the top to hold the cups of plants like is shown here.

You could also float plants like this over an aquarium which would be more DIY aquaponics.

Then you can also make more "high-tech" systems if you have space outside or inside your home, where you have PVC pipes constantly running water and plants sitting inside them - like you can see here and here.

Another option could be IKEA where they also sell small scale hydroponic planters so you don't have to build them.
