Work cannot be submitted late. If you do not submit by the required deadline without an authorised extension in place, you will automatically receive a Refer on the grounds of non-submission.
Extensions must be requested at least 48hrs prior to submission (only exceptional circumstances such as emergencies will overrule this, and evidence of the emergency will be requested).
Requesting an extension does not guarantee that one will be granted.
If an extension is granted this will be for 10 working days in the first instance.
20 working days and longer can be given after discussion and extenuating circumstances have been determined.
Unacceptable reasons for requesting an extension include poor time management, clashes with planned professional examinations, holiday plans, shift working and not seeking appropriate clarification about the assignment in time.
All extensions must be requested by completing the Submission Extension Request Form to the right.
Work no submitted by the approved extension deadline will automatically receive a Refer on the grounds of non-submission.
It is the responsibility of students to notify the Programme Administrator at the earliest opportunity if there are any extenuating circumstances that might have a bearing on their attendance or performance in assessments. Students should provide notification by email so that the administrator can then advise the best course of action from that point onward.
Departments may take into account medical circumstances when considering performance in assessed work and examinations, provided that adequate and written medical evidence is submitted. A student should submit written medical evidence which states the nature, the date of onset and the duration (where this can be judged) of the medical problem. Where a student has medical problems that are ongoing and/or chronic and that affect more than one assessment period the student should keep the Programme Administrator informed and may be required to submit further written medical evidence for subsequent assessment periods.
Students with ongoing medical conditions may be eligible for support from the Disability and Dyslexia Support Service (DDSS) and should refer to the DDSS website for information. Where a student has disclosed a disability and where details have been passed to the Departmental Disability Liaison Officer by the Disability and Dyslexia Support Service, the student will not be expected to submit further written evidence at subsequent assessment and examination periods.
Where extenuating circumstances have affected coursework but not invigilated examinations, the student's tutor or supervisor or other appropriate departmental staff should normally consider granting an extension to the deadline for submission in the first instance, where a student has completed all assessed work and examination/s, an adjustment of a grade may take place although reference should also be made to the External Examiner(s). These grades should be returned in the normal way, but departments should keep a record of any adjustments made.
Any student wishing to submit extenuating circumstances should refer to the SSID webpages for full information on this. This page also has links to all relevant forms required.
If you receive a refer for a any of your submitted work you will be contacted to resubmit. This will include instructions on how to do this and the deadline by which you will need to resubmit. You are asked to ensure you clearly outline what revisions have been made by highlighting areas which have been changed or new areas that have been added.
IMPORTANT - If you are required to resubmit any work you will incur a re-submission fee from central university.
