We extend you a very warm welcome to the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education. The programme forms part of the provision offered by the Academic Unit of Medical Education (AUME).
In becoming a participant, you join a very large community of academics, scientists and clinical academics, as well as those administering the work of AUME. We hope that the programme proves stimulating, relevant and enjoyable, even if at times demanding.
The Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education provides the opportunity for doctors, dentists and other health professionals with a developing interest in medical education, to explore the evidence and theoretical principles underpinning medical education and consider how these relate to their practice. The overall aim of the programme is to develop medical educators whose teaching practice is research-informed and adapted to a dynamic context. We also aim to develop the practical skills of participants and their ability to critically reflect upon how the core principles of effective teaching can be applied in their own practice.
Successful completion of the programme leads to being awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education which is equivalent to 60 credits. This provides opportunities for further study at Diploma (120 points) and Masters level (180 points) in the University of Sheffield’s School of Education. The Postgraduate Certificate sits then, in a portfolio of qualifications which begins with the ‘Gateway’ programme and ends with a PhD.
