Conference Themes

Potential PEE22 themes

During the PEE21 conference, an emergent theme from many of the delegates was the mechanics for delivering practical teaching remotely during the COVID-19 restrictions. We would love to hear how practitioners have applied learning from this period of teaching over the last year, as well as a variety of other topics around practical teaching. Rather than the planning committee prescribing the theme of the conference, we are looking for delegates to shape the event by telling us what they would like to hear about or work on.

To get you started with your ideas, here we have some suggestions:

  • Preparing students to be practical in industry

  • Learning from the pandemic – using our experience to enhance in-person practical sessions

  • Enhancing student experience and/or inclusivity of practical sessions

  • Assessment and feedback of practical work, including programme level assessment frameworks

  • Practical education outside the lab

  • Practical teaching and AHEP4 (e.g. ethical considerations, sustainability)

  • Digitalisation of practical activities in higher education

  • In house design and build of practical education equipment

We encourage the following:

  • The celebration of diversity in practical education

  • Working with students as partners

  • Examples from other disciplines

  • Examples when resources are constrained

  • Examples with large cohorts
