This module builds on both the skills developed in LAS317 and your independent project proposals. Throughout the module, you will be working towards the completion of an individual mini-research project, which will be assessed in two ways: through a creative output and a written report (via the development of a Google site). As an advanced module, students are encouraged to draw on their own interests developed over the course of their degree programme and demonstrate a clear research-led perspective. We will continue to build on the themes and theoretical frameworks addressed last semester i.e everyday mobility, memory, identity, precarity and aesthetics, helping you to refine your ideas from the project proposal. Where possible, this module will also include special workshops and guest lectures, all of which are designed to provide invaluable guidance on conducting independent research.

Project preparation: initial steps and methods
Interpreting your data
Project showcase - working on the written report and creative output.
Critical thinking - you will enhance your critical thinking skills as you apply the models and insights developed in EAS3041 Researching Korea 1 to the collection/creation and analysis of your source material.
Research and Independent Study - this is central to the work of the module, in the planning and delivery of your chosen output, and will require a high level of teamwork, and time/project management as well as understanding of appropriate methods and associated ethical issues.
Communication and Academic Writing - oral communication and discussion of ideas will be central to your work on content; preparation of your output will require that you think about how best to communicate your findings - using text, image and other forms - to an audience.
The University recommends that you spend 200 hours working on a 20-credit module.
As this is a final year module that allows students to work on their own mini-project, contact hours across the semester are a little different. We will have approximately 7 in-person workshops across the semester (2 hours each). The remaining weeks are dedicated to independent study (where students are expected to work on a number of tasks designed by the module organisers, as well as their individual assessments).
Creative Output (40%)
Written Report (60%)
Planning for this module begins at the end of the Autumn semester, in the work for EAS31002, so you will finish that module with a prep/to-do list for this one.
