The Insigneo ECR Committee is organising a seminar series focused on career development. Talks will be given by Insigneo members or almuni on their career experiences in academia, industry, government, policy and beyond, and sharing advice and promoting discussion with ECRs.
For this ECR career development seminar, we had two speakers:
Prof. Martyn Paley, who currently is an Emerituso Professor of BioMedical Imaging (MR Physics) in Academic Radiology, University of Sheffield. Martyn has been involved in studying and researching Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy (MRI/S) since 1973. He joined the University of Sheffield in 1997 and has been involved in setting up Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy (MRI/S) research in a wide range of topics from advanced functional MRI to neonatal and in-utero imaging and hyperpolarised gas and fluid enhanced MRI/S.
Dr Jake Salmonsmith, who currently works as a Knowledge Exchange manager for the Faculty of Science at the University of Sheffield, which involves connecting researchers and academics at the university with non-academic organisations. He has moved to Sheffield, which is where he became involved with Insigneo and has worked on the fluid dynamics of the blood flow through brain aneurysms.
For this ECR career development seminar, we had two speakers:
Dr Andrii Grytsan, who works within Technical Sales at COMSOL, taking care of academic customers in Sweden. In 2017, Andrii did a postdoc at Insigneo, with focus on developing a course for the new masters programme.
Dr Tim Ingham-Dempster, who did a PhD simulating pre-cancerous mutations of cells in the colon at Insigneo between 2014 and 2018. He is currently a Principal Developer at HBK leading a team creating engineering simulation software.
For this ECR career development seminar, we had two speakers:
