Supervisor: Professor Kathy Christofidou
is a final year BEng Materials Science and Engineering student, working with Modern AlChEME for her final year project.
This project is exploring modification of additively manufactured IN713LC through the use of inoculation, to reduce the residual stresses associated with causing cracking and to promote grain refinement.

Sammy Galpin, originally from Guernsey in the Channel Islands, is a Masters student studying Materials Science and Engineering.
His final year project is investigating the compressive behavior of a new developmental turbine disc superalloy for application in next generation turbine engines. This will involve exploring how forging operations and post-forging heat treatments affect the microstructure of the alloy. It is hoped that the results of this project will be used to control the processing conditions of the alloy to produce the optimum microstructure and provide the correct balance of material properties.
Zoe Papadakos is a final year MEng Materials Science and Engineering Student at The University of Sheffield.
As part of her Final Year Research Project, she is working with Iota Alpha Alloys, a startup from McGill University, on the experimental validation of Co-Al-W-based superalloys that have been designed with the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Supervised by Katerina Christofidou, Zoe will perform experimental microstructural and mechanical property evaluation to validate the AI models and establish structure-property relationships for the materials.
In her spare time Zoe enjoys working within Sheffield Formula Racing, dancing, and looking after her thirteen (& counting!) plants.
