Every year from mid September to mid November Hedgehog Friendly Campus challenges all its member institutions - from schools to universities - to pick as much litter as possible. A little friendly competition helps to pick more litter, which results in safer places for our wildlife, and for us as a result too!
This year Hedgehog Friendly Campus Sheffield is also joining in the competition! We have set up three monthly campus litter picks, all on Thursdays 3.25-4.05pm (18/9/25, 16/10/25 and for the final push 20/11/25); meet in the Alfred Denny building foyer, we’ll provide, pickers, bags and gloves.

We are running our next mammal survey from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th September, with a briefing talk on Friday 19 September. Register here!
Join us to survey for hedgehogs and other mammals across campus! There are options to join our workshop and to help monitor survey tunnels the following week.
At the workshop, we will present a talk about hedgehogs and Hedgehog Friendly Campus before showing you how to set up and check your survey tunnels. We will have tunnels at the event for you to take away to your own building to survey for hedgehogs that week! There are 8 tunnels available in total.
We tend to recommend small teams look after each tunnel to ensure someone can attend the workshop and someone can survey the tunnel each day during the week :) not everyone who wants to help survey needs to attend the workshop but it would be useful if one member of your team did, and surveying the tunnel only takes ~5-10 mins per day!
If you don't have a team in mind, we can match you with others :)
We have a QR code available to scan so you get a FREE COFFEE through BetterPoints for all these events!
If you're not available but would like to help our campus hogs in future, consider joining the Hedgehog Friendly Campus Team (hedgehogfriendlycampus_contact@sheffield.ac.uk).
