The Community Longitudinal Integrated Placement (CLIP) enhanced SSC was developed according to evidence on similar placements in medical education literature, integrated into the Sheffield MbChB Programme and balanced against the realities of UK General Practice.
3A students will spend 1 day per week in General Practice throughout all of their hospital-based placement blocks (i.e. Women's health/Child health and Psychiatry) followed by an extended 13 week immersive experience in general practice at the end of the year.
The aim is for students to integrate their learning across specialties, underpinned with support from tutors in Primary Care, which will enhance development of clinical and professional skills and a generalist approach to medicine.
"I really enjoyed the longitudinal aspect of CLIP. By the end, I felt part of the team at my practice. Many of the staff knew me by name (a refreshing change as this often doesn't happen). They were always happy to accommodate me in terms of learning opportunities and I learned a great deal from the wider team, particularly the PAs, nurses and HCAs." - 3A student December 2023
