Medics Mentoring Programme 2024 - 2025
Welcome to the Medics Mentoring Programme, designed to guide aspiring medical students through valuable experiences and insights into medicine. This programme offers interactive workshops, practical experience, and mentoring by GP Doctors and Medical School’s Widening Participation Team to understand and prepare you for a career in Medicine.
We look forward to supporting you on your journey towards a career in medicine!
1. Medics Mentoring Welcome and Programme Preparation
Date: Tuesday 15th October, 6pm (Virtual - 30mins)
A brief 30-minute session introducing the programme. We will outline the structure, expectations, and how to prepare for success. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions.
2. Aspiring Medics Mentoring Workshop 1
Your first in-person workshop is available in several locations. In this session, we will cover key elements such as ethics in confidentiality and consent, practical issues, and how to navigate the 'Observe GP Platform' and complete a reflective diary.

Sheffield: Tuesday 22nd Oct, 3pm- 5pm
Doncaster: Friday 25th Oct, 9am - 11am
Barnsley: Friday 25th Oct, 4pm - 6pm
3. 'Observe GP' & Reflection Workshop 2
Date: Tuesday 5th November (Virtual)
After completing the 'Observe GP' online platform, this session will allow you to reflect with GP Doctor Tutors on key insights, discuss themes from the virtual experience, and understand how this informs career decisions in medicine.
4. GP Two-Day Placement
Dates: November 2024 - January 2025 (In Person)
Eligible students will gain hands-on experience through a two-day placement in a GP practice. This opportunity allows you to observe daily activities and engage with a variety of healthcare professionals. Placement includes a mandatory virtual preparation session with the Widening Participation (WP) Team.
*ONLY available to students who successfully participate in workshop 1 and 2).
5. Post-GP Placement Reflection Workshop 3
Date: Tuesday 11th February (In Person)
Only for students who completed the GP placement.
This reflective workshop with GP Doctor tutors will help you analyse and reflect on your experience, discuss learnings about healthcare, and explore how these insights can strengthen your journey into medicine.
6. Admissions Interview Preparation Workshop 4
Date: Tuesday 25th March, 3pm - 5pm (Virtual)
This workshop will focus on how best to engage and prepare for medical school admissions interviews. You will receive information from the Admissions Director, GP Doctors and Widening Participation Team, along with resources and support on interview techniques. You will also learn about additional admissions related activities available at the University, e.g. UCAT Course.
