How did you first hear about the Practice Recruitment Experience?
I had been looking for an internship and/or placement. Upon reading about some of the stages required to get them, I sought out help. I first heard about the opportunity to participate in Gradcore’s Practice Recruitment Experience whilst checking my Gmail. The experience provided one-to-one interviews, group presentation tasks and a solo presentation task.
Can you describe what the event was like? How was the day structured?
The day began with a sharp arrival at Bramall lane around 8:30, followed by a short introductory talk by the people involved in running the experience. We had three tasks to complete throughout the day, with my first one being a one-to-one interview. I then moved on to a group activity with four other students. Finally, I completed a solo presentation in front of students and an assessor.
Which activity did you enjoy the most and why?
I particularly enjoyed the group presentation, as I found it enjoyable to share and build upon other students' ideas whilst tackling a real-world scenario.
What skills do you feel you developed or strengthened during the event?
I feel I have honed my interview technique by presenting myself in a professional and direct manner. Additionally, delivering both solo and group presentations has strengthened my public speaking skills and improved my ability to communicate effectively with my peers.
How did the facilitators’ feedback help you understand your strengths in these types of settings?
The feedback I received post-event was extremely helpful. It highlighted both my strengths and areas for improvement, enabling me to identify my weaknesses and address them effectively, ensuring that I will be better prepared for the real thing.
How do you think this experience will help you with your career goals?
I am confident that this experience has prepared me for future career opportunities by giving me a realistic insight into an assessment centre and allowing me to share and learn alongside students in the same position. I worked both independently and collaboratively, which encouraged me to adapt to different environments.
