Elections to the ERS committee are held annually, posts are held until the next AGM. Committee posts are open to all contract (fixed term or open ended) research staff within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sheffield (UoS).

The committee holds open one hour meetings approximately once every other month. Whenever possible, committee positions are split between two people to spread workload. Committee positions will require a few hours work each month outside of the regular meetings, this time commitment will vary depending on position, time of year, current activities, etc. A list and brief description of the current committee posts is shown below, please contact the current incumbent for further details of responsibilities.
The 2025 AGM was held at 13:00 on Tuesday 14th January via Google Meet and in person in the Joseph Husband Room, D Floor Broad Lane Block (inside former Civ. Eng. Common Room, D119). All UoS Faculty of Engineering research staff were invited to attend. All positions were open for nomination at the AGM, the currently elected committee is on the committee page. Oversees the running of the society, chairs meetings, provides a central point of contact with the faculty.
Communication, organisation, correspondence. Records minutes of meetings, maintains email list. Use Google Apps to maintain and share ERS documents. Administrate the ERS email account.
Oversee and present budgets, accounts and financial statements to the committee. Advise on financial implications of strategic and operational plans. Ensure proper University auditable records are kept. Demonstrate the need and secure on-going funding for the following financial year.
Run social events which forge links between members of the ERS, and with other researcher societies. Take forward ideas from the ERS committee and membership and generate further ideas for social events. Organise or delegate and oversee organisation of social events. Develop events that will appeal to ERS membership. Provide information to other officers with respect to publicising events; arranging finances; etc.
Maintain and develop the website as a key means of communication with ERS members. Liaise with other officers to generate new content.
Responsible for publicising the ERS through development of posters and other advertising material. Also monitoring and raising issues related to the researcher environment.
Liaise with the Faculty Director of Women in Engineering with a view to redressing the gender imbalance of the discipline.
