Virtual Tour
View our museum in 3d virtual space:
Can't make it in person? Not to worry! We've partnered with the University Digital Learning Team to capture the museum space in 3D for you to explore. Firstly a 'doll house' mock up of the museums structure will be displayed, and then you will be transported inside the museum
Click the circles on the floor to step through the museum and click + drag with your mouse to look around. There are a number of data tags containing more information, fun facts and photos of the specimens.
There are two view modes
'Free Explore' which lets users walk round the museum at their own pace and choose where to go.
'Guided tour' which starts with the sponges - the most ancestral animal group, then takes users on a tour of animal life cabinet by cabinet through the invertebrates to vertebrates, displaying facts about the animal groups shown.
Upcoming: virtual tours
We are working to develop a virtual 'guided' tour using this software. Tours will feature introductory videos of our guides who will take you through the history of the museum and its current uses within the university at present. After the introductory video, there will be the option to watch 2 other videos about the displays outside of the museum - one on Henry Clifton Sorby and another about Colonialism and the museum. Once viewers have watched all the videos they will be free to explore the 360 space with transcripts of signs, additional information on specimens, high-resolution pictures and more.
