How to get here:

We recommend travelling to the Museum via public transport. Sheffield has great transport links, with several park and ride sites, and is easily accessible by train. We are unable to offer parking on the Univeristy campus and the nearby public 'pay and display' parking is very limited.

Buses:

A number of regular bus services stop at or near the University. The most frequent of these are the 51, 52 and 95 from the city centre and the 120 from Sheffield Transport Interchange.

A detailed list of all bus services that serve the University campus, their timetables and live departure information can be found by clicking any of the bus stops on the Travel South Yorkshire interactive public transport map.

Trams:

You can catch the Supertram to the campus from Meadowhall, the railway station and the city centre. Both the blue route to Malin Bridge and the yellow route to Middlewood stop at West Street and at the University.

Book a tour

Our Museum opens to the public on the first Saturday of every month.

We run 3 tours at:

Due to the size of the museum our tours have limited capacity of 25 people. Click HERE to book on the next upcoming tour.

Virtual viewing:

Can't make it in person? Not to worry! We've partnered with the Universities Digital Learning Team to capture the museum space in 3D for you to explore.

Check out our Virtual Tour page to explore the museum virtually.

The tours contain information on specific specimens. Overviews on the key features of animal groups and fun facts about our collections- as well as a lot of pictures to show off items in greater detail!

We are currently working on some mini documentaries to embed in the virtual tour which will cover the history of the museum and the work of Henry Clifton Sorby

Please be aware:

The museum and accompanying displays are wheelchair accessible.
However,  due to the small size of the museum and location of the central cabinets it can be difficult to manoeuvre, especially on busy tours

The museum contains skeletons- including human remains, jar-specimens and taxidermy, which some viewers may find uncomfortable.

See our ethics statement on the display of human remains.

We are a small museum with limited capacity of 25 people so you need to book onto tours in advance or contact the museum to schedule an event.

With the exception of botted water, no food or drink is to be consumed in the museum.

Enquire about a specialist tour, event or access to our collection:

Financial support:

As a small museum our funding is limited and the majority of the behind the scenes work is carried out by the incredible efforts of our volunteers.

Your donations will go towards increasing the number of tours, setting up new displays such as an exhibition on British Birds currently in the works, as well as funding our efforts to increase the museum's social media presence and reach.
