Values

Lets start by recapping our values, as our values help define our expectations and progress:

Undertake this power point together as a group. There are lots of values to explore together. Its important that you understand: core values, the 3 Be's, and British values.

Values at College- 2022-23

Duke of Edinburgh

DofE is available for all learners aged 14 to 25 and can be completed at whichever level they would like (Bronze, Silver or Gold). To complete the award the learners, must take part in a programme of learning a skill, physical activity, and volunteering. Many extracurricular activities that the learners do as part of College will count towards their award and I would like to encourage as many of them as we can to sign up to the DofE to receive extra recognition for these activities. Please be aware there is a sign-up fee of £23 each for Bronze or Silver awards or £30 for the Gold award.

The College is a DofE Licenced Organisation which means we can provide our own DofE programme. To find out more about the DofE and the benefits, please visit our new Staff and Student DofE

NCS

NCS is a programme available to 16-18 for free. The programmes normally run during the summer and consist of 1-week activity residential, 1-week independence skills (living on a set budget in student halls in a group) and 1-week social action (research and deliver a charitable project e.g., supporting Roundabout, raising money for Clic Sargent, etc.).

Voluntary Action Sheffield

Interested in volunteering? Want to build experience and skills? Volunteering is crucial to build the skills you need for a successful future. It is a great way to meet others and to do lots of networking. The VAS site will help you find the opportunity you need.

Opus- Now Then

A really good magazine that gives you a good break down of local, regional and national political issues. The magazine gives you events you can also get involved to be an active citizen!

At College there are lots of different ways to build skills in being an active citizenship. You can do this by getting involved in the different activities and events that take place in the College, or by undertaking activities outside of College that are related to active citizenship.

Festival of Debate

Founded in 2015 by Opus Independents, the Festival of Debate creates opportunities to bring people together to share new ideas and lived experience that can help shape our understanding of the world.

We collaborate with a huge range of partner organisations - some local, some international. They include grassroots campaign groups, voluntary and community groups, universities and think tanks.

The Festival of Debate programme is a reflection of these communities in South Yorkshire and broader movements for social change. The festival is strictly non partisan – it’s an open platform that encourages active citizenship and democratic engagement that anyone can contribute to. Our events are not just debates between people with opposing views. Our programme includes discussions, Q&As, artistic responses, keynote speeches, performances and plays that explore politics, economics and society.
