'Opening Doors' event - 16th November 2023, 4-5:30pm.
Opening Doors was an information event about progression opportunities after college. This event was open to everyone, particularly students that are (or have been) under local authority care, are care experienced, young carer's, or are estranged from their family. Parents were also welcome to attend this event.
The session focused on Higher Education and traditional university, higher level apprenticeships, and alternate routes into H.E. that are available through The Sheffield College. We also covered financial advice, what support may be available to you depending on your own personal circumstances, and how to apply.
The event will ran on November 16th 2023 at 4pm-5:30pm in the Presentation Suite at City Campus.
The event was free to attend. If you are currently a Sheffield College student, you can just turn up! If you do not currently attend The Sheffield College, please email SCE@sheffcol.ac.uk to reserve a space.
UCAS Discovery Fair
We joined fellow universities, colleges, apprenticeship providers and employers at the Sheffield Arena UCAS Exhibition in June to help young people discover their future.
We had industry experts from our bakery, childcare, dental technology, sport and health and social care departments at our stall to talk to about the range of options at university-level study.
In June 2022, we welcomed care experienced young people, their parents/carers and support workers to City Campus to find our more about the College, speak to key support staff and have a tour of the facilities.
Our aim is to continue engaging with and supporting this cohort of young people, so keep a lookout for future events. Equally, if you feel we can do more within a school environment to support your care experienced students, do get in touch!
Our Girls in Construction events were a huge success! Superstar students from Year 9-11 took part in a full day of carpentry and joinery, electrical installation and painting and decorating taster activities! Hopefully the day inspired more females to consider a career in the construction industry.
We were overjoyed to support another event run by The Children in Care Council. Care-Experienced people aged 12-22 performed poems, raps and spoken word at The Leadmill centered around dreaming big! To give the performers that extra boost of confidence, our Hair and Beauty students volunteered to do their hair and make-up backstage.
We hosted campus tours specifically aimed at adults aged 19+ who have an interest in re-entering education.
