In response to teacher requests, time has been set aside today for curriculum work. Please look at the list of objectives below. This list is extensive and probably more than can be accomplished during our time today. Thus, under most objectives, teachers will be asked to complete a form to identify work that needs to continue during the curriculum day of the 2018 Summer Institute.
Only ONE person can be editing a map in Pivot.
Others can be viewing it, but only ONE person should actually be changing the map.
Also, be sure to SAVE frequently as you work on your maps.
Some junior/senior high school departments/courses have not had the opportunity to move their materials from Atlas (e.g. agriculture, fine arts, business). If this describes you, then you are invited to come and meet with Mrs. Geltmaker (in Room 210 (HS)). THIS SESSION WILL ONLY BE OFFERED DURING BLOCK ONE. If you are an elementary teacher who needs help with this, please let me know.
A document has been created for any grade-level/subject-area that needs to update its maps. Click here to navigate to Drive. Look to see if your grade-level/subject-area has a document in this folder. If you do, please open the document, begin to check off the items as your group accomplishes them. Don't see a document for you? Move onto Objective 3.
This objective is made up of several sub-activities.
Map Development - If you teach in a subject-area that has not developed its maps yet, or you have not completed creating all of them, then you need to begin/continue this process. It is suggested that you create one map for each course and quarter of that course you teach. Before you can do this, a Pivot administrator needs to create a map template and share it with you. An email request for this information was sent out earlier in the month. If you responded, then your maps should be ready to go. If not or if you need help, please email or speak to Mr. Carl, Mrs. Geltmaker, Mrs. Owen, or Mr. Rhoads.
Focus Standards - Each grade-level/course will look at its identified focus standards and ensure that your group is in agreement on them. Some groups have already begun this work, and the work can be reviewed here. When looking at the focus standards, begin to have conversations about how to break these down to identify the skills that are attached to the standards. Teachers should make note of these in the Skills and Strategies section of their curriculum maps in Pivot.
Assessment Review - Teachers will work as a group to look at the district-wide assessments that are connected to their grade-level/course curriculum maps. The purpose of this review is to ensure that everyone knows what assessments are to be given and to ensure that the selected assessments actually assess the identified standards in a reliable fashion. If assessments are found that do not address the identified standards, then they need to be updated/corrected. This can be begun today or teachers can record their findings using this form.
We are asking each grade-level/course to identify standards that would lend themselves to being assessed through a tech-infused activity/project/product. The identified standards do NOT have to be the focus standards. In fact, teachers may wish to avoid these. We then are asking that you come up with one activity/project/product per quarter that would be defined as tech-infused. In addition to the activity/project/product, you will need to create a rubric that will be used in the evaluation process.
We are not necessarily asking you to reinvent the wheel. There may already be things that you are doing in your classroom that fit this criteria. If so, discuss them with your group. The idea is that every student at a particular grade-level or taking a particular course would engage in the same tech-infused assessment ensuring continuity across the district.
As a guide for grades K-6, a Digital Fluency Scope and Sequence has been developed. This document is a draft and has not been officially endorsed/approved by the corporation. It is an attempt to begin us thinking about how we can intentionally embed digital fluency into our curriculum. The scope and sequence does not have any guidance for grades 7-12 at this time. We hope to expand the scope and sequence to rectify this. Teachers in grades K-8 may also wish to look at the Computer Science Standards specific to their grade-bands (CSS for grades K-2, CSS for grades 3-5, & CSS for grades 6-8).
Ultimately, these tech-infused assessments will need to be added to the curriculum maps. For now, and if you like, you can use this form to record your work.
Again, we acknowledge that the list above is quite extensive. We appreciate all your hard work and suggest dividing and conquering when you can. Also, if there are other curricular tasks that you feel your grade-level/subject-area needs to accomplish, please email Mrs. Geltmaker.
You will work with your group to share and make activities for your classrooms, discuss learning centers, and any other curricular tasks that you deem necessary. PreK teachers will meet in room 138 (JH). Essential skills teachers will meet in room 114 (HS).
Marty Miller will work with you during Block FOUR in getting your second semester grade books set up in SDS. You will meet in room 131 (JH). During Block TWO, please address the curricular objectives listed above.
Please meet to discuss issues that pertain to your roles in the schools.
