NCEA Level 2 Design and Visual Communication

Aims

To build on the foundation of skills and understanding established in Level 1 to develop innovative solutions for spatial, product and graphic design contexts.

Course Content

Students start their design process by investigating design heritage, looking at a specific era or movement. This then informs ideas that are developed for spatial and product design outcomes. In this process, they explore the relevant implications within both fields. Students then investigate graphic design conventions and apply them to promote their design ideas to an audience.

Skills

Through studying Design and Visual Communication, students are encouraged to be innovative, creative, and to show initiative. They learn teamwork and communication skills.

Assessment

Students produce a portfolio that is assessed against specific internal achievement standards throughout the year. Selected work is then sent for assessment of the external achievement standards.
