  2. Winter sport is generally played in Term 2 and 3.

  3. Trials for winter sport are to be scheduled after Week 5 in Term 1. Trials should be scheduled, where possible, so they do not interfere with summer sports.

  4. Trials for summer sports must be scheduled after Winter Sports Week in Term 3.

  5. Summer sports training and games will take priority over winter sports in Terms 1 and 4.

  6. Winter sports training and games will take priority over summer sports in Term 2 and 3.

  7. Trials for all sports to be approved with our Director of Sport at least two weeks prior to the proposed dates.

  8. If there is an unavoidable clash of summer and winter sports codes, the student will not be disadvantaged in terms of selection for the sport.

Signups:

Sign ups can be accessed through each sport code on the website. All sign ups for sports will also be sent to students emails via a google doc. They need to fill in this form and discuss playing with parents prior to sending it back. Once sign ups are closed, information will be sent to the students regarding any trial dates and extra information. From here, teams are announced and your child's school account will be charged for the required fee.

Playing Multiple Codes:

The school encourages students to play multiple sports through out the year. It is important that students who play several sports in one season are able to balance academic work load with their sport committments. For students who would like to play TWO Premier codes at any one time should organise to meet with the Director of sport and coaches to ensure that it is manageable and agreeable by all parties. The student is likely to be asked to make one sport the priority especially when codes clash with practice, games or tournaments.

Draws and Cancellations

Weekly draws will be posted on the school noticeboard in the gymnasium and the school sport website when possible. Most Sport Organisations will have draws on their websites. Any cancellations will be posted to website and/or facebook, as well as the students being emailed. Some sports will also post on their websites and phone apps.

SPORT Fees: (please see each sport code for estimated costs)

Financial Commitment

For weekly competitions and all associated sports costs will be added to your child’s school account. Fees generally include, entry fees and association fees, contribution to sports uniform and equipment, travel costs etc.

Once your daughter has registered for their nominated team and the competition starts, fee payment is expected. If for some unexpected reason, they are unable to continue in the team, then you must tell the Director of sport or TIC. If no notice is given then full payment is expected. Fees are worked out on the basis of how many students are playing. For tournaments, once the team is selected and permission is given, then costs will be charged. If your child is unable to attend due to last minute injury or sickness and NO replacement is found, then costs will still be required.

Tournaments & Exchanges

Many of our teams will have the chance to participate in tournaments and exchanges over the school year. This is a great opportunity for team bonding, representing St Hilda's in a positive way and to gain tournament experience plus a chance to travel out of Dunedin. Tournaments are invoiced separately to the weekly competition fee and a permission slip will be sent to parents regarding out of town travel which must be returned to the Director of Sport or Teacher in Charge. Tournament fees is expected to be paid prior to departure.

The school has two major school exchanges, one Summer and one Winter Quadrangular Tournament. This sees 5 sister schools competing in the chosen sports of that season. Each year a school hosts the exchange, so travel is required. This is definitely an exciting opportunity that our students look forward to and a chance to get to know other students through a billeting system.

FUNDING/GRANT APPLICATIONS

The Parents’ and Friends’ Association (P.F.A.) have a Sports and Cultural fund. This fund is generated by the main fundraising event that takes place in alternate years to the School Fair. Parents must apply directly for their daughter rather than team applications. Parents are able to access this fund once per year, per child and this application can be found under Informational Links on the main page of the Parent Portal.

Applications will be considered by the P.F.A Committee, which meets monthly. The P.F.A. Committee will have discretion to consider the applications on a case by case basis. Successful applicants will have the amount credited to their daughter’s school activities account.

If you have any questions regarding this fund please contact Helen Almey halmey@shcs.school.nz
